An Ohio resident, born and raised, I
worked as a letter carrier at the Celina, Ohio post office for 32 years.
Retiring at age 55 was a bit of a shock to me because my three children were
raised, all married
with children, and my wife, Judy, still working. For the first
time in my life I realized that I had extra time and could do what I
wanted to do. Creativity had always been part of my life but
before retirement it had to fit in between jobs, family, children,
vacations, and church.
I was able to combine a long held interest in watercolor painting
with my current interest in gardening. At that time I was
fascinated with flowers and I painted them. Iris. Most of my
friends have them hanging somewhere in their homes. I painted lots
of them and began to wonder how I ever had time to work! You can
see some of my original works in Art For
Sale.
I have been painting for seven years now, and the thrill of putting
paint to paper is still just as exciting to me as it was the first time.
My subject interest continues to evolve and recently I have focused on
African and South American subjects. Take a look at Recent
Work.
I work mainly from photographs and do commissioned paintings for
clients from their old family photos. These I call Just for you. (These works have become popular gift items.)
I also am working en Plein Air in oil. These small
landscapes are done on site to capture the mood and
light of the natural scene.
Like many artists, I am mainly self taught, working in my home
studio and experimenting with what looks pleasing to me and what I think
will be pleasing to you. Of course, there are wonderful art books
and workshops to expand the reach of an artist. I list
Homer Hacker and Craig Srebnik as two artists I admire and with
whom I have attended workshops, and now I teach watercolor classes in my
home studio.
I am a member of The Wassenberg Art Center, Van Wert, Ohio, The Ohio
Watercolor Society, The Visual Arts Network, Lima, Ohio, and past
President of The West Central Ohio Art League, Celina, Ohio. I have received many awards for my work and my paintings hang in many
homes and commercial settings. I was a Featured Artist in the
2007-08 Fall-Winter edition of Art-to-Art Palette and a Featured
Artist at Gallery 510, in the Historic Oregon District, Dayton, Ohio in
June of 2008.
I hope you enjoy looking at my work as much as I enjoy creating and
showing it. (Yes, family and friends insisted that I include the
four pictures below. Embarrassing.)
